About us

We review food,
because food deserves it.

Everyone has that one place. The döner shop you keep going back to, even if it's a 24-minute walk. The spit that's always perfectly roasted. The sauce that someone who actually knows what they're doing made.

And then you check Google. 4.3 stars. Right next to the restaurant with the „friendly service“ that serves a döner tasting of nothing. The food isn't rated. Service is. Parking is. And in the end the best döner in a city ends up with 3.9 stars because the owner is grumpy.

doener.io does it differently.

What we believe

  • Structured, not generic.
For a döner we rate bread, meat, sauce, portion, freshness, value. For a pizza: dough, crust, sauce, cheese, toppings. Each product has its own criteria. A star average is a mood signal, not a review.
  • Verified, not arbitrary.
Every review needs a photo. We check EXIF metadata, GPS coordinates, and perceptual hashes. Fake reviews get devalued, not just moderated. Shops can collect on-site verified reviews via QR code. Our methodology (German) explains how.
  • Only the food.
No ambience, no cleanliness, no parking. A grumpy man with the best döner in town is still a hero. We judge what ends up in the paper wrap.
  • Community-driven.
Missing a criterion? Should we cover a new cuisine? Our methodology is open, feedback flows into our criteria, and contributors are credited on the methodology page (if they wish).

Who's behind this?

doener.io is an independent project — no chain, no publisher, no investor pitch deck. Started after its founder realized, around his 400th döner, that Google has no idea which one is actually the best.

How we make money

We say it plainly:

  • Premium profiles for shops. Free base profiles stay free. Premium unlocks QR codes, analytics, video upload. Details (German).
  • Open advertising for the industry. Kebab machines, POS systems, flatbread wholesale — only category-relevant, transparently labeled. Details (German).

What we don't do: sell reviews, manipulate scores, disguise ads as editorial content. Rankings stay uncorrupted.
